In case of imminent endangerment of the environment, BALSA GmbH undertakes the projecting and realisation of measures for the protection / remediation of affected properties.
Contaminated site N1 “Fischer landfill site”
The area of the Fischer landfill site east of Theresienfeld – once used as a gravel pit – was filled with domestic, industrial and commercial waste, oil-contaminated materials and building rubble throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Contrary to the original allocations, non-permitted waste materials were deposited far beyond the borders of the original landfill site – even underneath the upper level of ground water.
In the period of 2001 – 2008, the remediation of the Fischer landfill site was executed by the Republic of Austria, represented by the district authorities of Wiener Neustadt. To that, the complete waste body had to be cleared. The dug out waste materials (mainly domestic waste and contaminated soil, as well as barrels filled with solvent liquids) had to be transported to external treatment plants to be disposed of according to the laws.
940,000 t waste / approx. 15,000 containers / 1.1 million t subsoil material
Overall project costs:
approx. € 130 Mio (inkl. VAT)
Assignments of BALSA by order of the district authorities of Wiener Neustadt:
- At the beginning of 2005, BALSA was charged with the continuation of the project management.
This project has been completed in January 2008.
